After four successful editions, the fifth edition of the VDHP Video Biennial is now underway at Van der Helstplein Etalages in Amsterdam. Video works by fifteen artists are on display in twelve windows.
A mourning ritual, a dog’s gaze, a rebellious animation, a vanitas installation, a couple in a headlock, a sneaky peek, an animation in which mouths try to form words, an eternal thread, an abstract representation of a window in a mirrored cabinet, an animation of digital images, feet that scroll, hands that push a face into various shapes, objects thrown on a table, and a portrait of steaming sauna visitors.
Video art in public space, freely accessible, yet intimate thanks to its small size. You can walk by and pause for a moment, catch a glimpse of what’s happening behind the windows, or completely disappear into another world, right in the middle of the street.

Rhythm Section consists of artists from various disciplines who explicitly and consciously deal with the theme of rhythm in their work. The core that unites the group is the commitment to a hyper-reflexivity in dealing with rhythm, not as a constraint but as an original constant. The exchange and dynamics that arise from the different approaches and media provide new approaches to art and its practice.
The exhibition 1 5 2 3 8 provides for the first time a retrospective overview of the various activities of the group, which has been working together since 2010. In addition to the exhibition, there will be a side programme of workshops, performances and artist talks. In cooperation with Villa Waldberta (Feldafing), members of the group from China are invited to an artist residency.
