From the catalogue:

Paper Foton XXI, 2013

Paper Foton XXI, 2013

Amsterdam Drawing 2013 follows the first and very succesful 2012 edition. For Amsterdam Drawing 2013 forty galleries have been invited, amongst which several from outside of the Netherlands. The fair will take place in a specially build, temporary pavilion of some 1200 square meters.

The defined area of works on paper in visual arts has a dedicated group of followers around the world. To a lot of artists, paper is a favourite carrier and to a smaller group it is the only carrier. The fact that a drawing, collage, water colour or painting on paper necessarily brings the artist physically closer to the material he or she uses, results in an intimate experience for the viewer.

Amsterdam Drawing is not only intended for collectors who are interested in works on paper by young and established artists, it also wants to bring contemporary art on paper to the attention of a wider audience.

Key Projects presents Light Conversation, an exhibition featuring four artists who use color that emits light – through the medium of paint on canvas, Mylar, steel or working directly with plexiglas. There is sense of wonder in their processes that yield interesting surprises.

Foton XVIII, 2012

Lynne Harlow creates work with as little intervention as possible, enabling the materials inherent qualities, such as light and transparency, to play an essential role. Henriëtte van ’t Hoog’s three-dimensional objects play with your sense of perspective enhanced by the glowing colors hidden on the backs of each piece. Mary Schiliro’s luminous painted Mylars with circular cut-outs dialogue with their own rhythmic shadow play. Juxtaposing washy backgrounds with solid painted blocks of color, Douglas Witmer’s surfaces quietly resonate – color and light.

Doppler is an international traveling exhibition organized by Mel Prest. The exhibition features works by twenty two artists living in the US and Europe. The exhibition title refers to the Doppler Effect as well as synesthesia. The intent of the exhibition is to visually question or crush the illusion of difference between 2D and 3D. The artists chosen have created work that optically straddles this un-locatable perceptual space where static objects move and shift or trigger simultaneous sense-readings.

Paper Foton XII, 2012

Poste Concret2 is an exhibition of (square) post card sized works sent via ‘la Poste’ by invited artists. This is a fundraising event for ParisCONCRET (a non profit organisation). Once again numerous artists have generously donated work. Each piece will be for sale at an exceptional price of € 60. We anticipate a spectacular exhibition consisting of some 200 pieces. We hope you will also show your support by taking the opportunity to purchase something for your collection. To ensure that those unable to be in Paris for the opening event will not miss out, the work is also available online.
